Welcome!

Welcome to the Bacterial Genetics Laboratory!

Organisms evolve and adapt to their environment. In the lab we study bacterial adaptation and evolution under stressful conditions by following the emergence of mutations in bacteria exposed to different selective media growing in batch or continuous culture. Using gene and genomic sequencing tools our ultimate goal is to discover the mechanisms that guide the origin of mutations. As an application we follow the evolution of the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa aiming at isolating a bacterial strain able to accumulate high amounts of polyphosphate, that will later be employed in the bioremediation of water bodies contaminated by eutrophication.
