Alexei Mailybaev (IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Alexei Mailybaev has received his MSc degree with honours (1997) and his PhD degree (1999) from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. He has also obtained a DSc in Mathematics and Physics (2009) from the Institute of Mechanics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. From 2011 to 2016 he was an Associate Professor and from 2016 to this day he has been Full Professor at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), in Rio de Janeiro. He maintains regular scientific collaboration with a number of prestigious institutions, such as University of Rome – Tor Vergata (Italy), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), Université Nice Sophia Antipolis (France), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Technical University of Delft (The Netherlands), Technion (Israel), University of Tsukuba (Japan), Technical University of Denmark (Denmark). He has published two books and more than 80 papers in scientific journals. His main research areas are: fluid dynamics and turbulence, nonlinear waves in conservation laws, reactive flows in porous media, spectral singularities in mathematics and physics, stability and vibrations of mechanical systems.

Alois Steindl (TU Wien, Vienna, Austria)

Alois Steindl has received his degree in Technical Mathematics (1982), his PhD (1984) and his Habilitation in Mechanics (1997) from the TU Wien. Since 1997 he is Associate Professor at the Institut für Mechanik at TU Wien. He has carried out peer review activities in a number of important scientific journals, such as Acta Mechanica, Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Nonlinear Dynamics, Journal of Sound and Vibrations, Nonlinear Mechanics, Journal of Vibration and Control. His main areas of research are: nonlinear dynamics (investigation of the stability of steady and periodic solutions of mechanical systems and the bifurcation of solution branches under variation of parameters) and Optimal Control of Tethered Satellites (determination of optimal control solutions for the deployment, retrieval of stabilization of tethered satellites by tension control).

Andrei Metrikine (TU Delft, Delft, The Netherlands)

Andrei Metrikine holds the chair of Dynamics of Solids and Structures at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He is also Head of Section of Offshore Engineering and Head of Department of Engineering Structures within the same faculty. He also holds a part-¬time International Chair in Offshore Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and serves as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Sound and Vibration. Andrei has graduated from the faculty of radio¬physics at the State University of Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia in 1989. Thereafter, he joined the Mechanical Engineering Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and in 1992 he received a PhD degree in theoretical mechanics from the State Technical University of Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 1994¬1998 he held a number of post¬ doctoral positions, including one in the Institute for Mechanics of the Hannover University, Germany awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt foundation. In 1998 he received a Doctor of Sciences degree in mechanics of solids from the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering RAS, Saint Petersburg, Russia. Since 1999 Andrei is a member of staff of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of TU Delft. Andrei’s research is focused on vibrations of and waves in structures that are in contact with solids and fluids. The main application areas of Andrei’s research currently are: Dynamics of offshore wind turbines; Dynamics of structures in ice; Dynamics and stability of offshore pipelines; Dynamics of high-¬-speed railway lines on soft soil.

Carlos Eduardo Nigro Mazzilli (EPUSP, São Paulo, Brazil)

Carlos Mazzilli got a degree in civil engineering (1975), MSc in structural engineering (1979) and habilitation in solid mechanics (1988) at the Escola Politécnica, University of São Paulo. He got his PhD at the University College London (1982). He holds a full professorship at Escola Politécnica since 1992, where he served as Head of the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering from 1994 to 1998. He has been a visiting professor in several foreign universities: Universitaet Karlsruhe (1989), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1990), Michigan State University (2000), University of Aberdeen (2006, 2008) and Università Politecnica delle Marche (2006, 2013, 2016, 2017). His research interests encompass static and dynamic structural non-linear analysis (analytical, numerical and experimental), non-linear modal analysis, asynchronous modes of vibrations, reduced-order modelling, structural stability and vibration control.

Celso Pupo Pesce (EPUSP, São Paulo, Brazil)

Founder (1994) and head of the Offshore Mechanics Laboratory – LMO, USP, since 1998, Celso Pesce is Professor of Mechanical Sciences, at Escola Politécnica. Holds a Naval Architect degree (1978), MSc and PhD degrees in Ocean Engineering (1984, 1988; 1984-85 in Caltech, Engineering Sciences Dept) and a ‘Livre-Docente’ Diploma in Mechanics (1997), all from University of São Paulo. At USP, since 1989, entered as Assistant Professor in Mechanics (1989-97) and was promoted to Associate Professor in Mechanics (1997), before being awarded the Mechanical Sciences Professorship in 1998. MSc and PhD supervisor in the Graduate Programs in Mechanical and in Ocean Engineering at Escola Politécnica, since 1989. Visiting Professor, 1999-2000, at the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Dept of the University of Michigan; Invited Lecturer at CISM - International Centre for Mechanical Sciences, Italy, 2012; Invited Lecturer in the Joint Brazil-Japan graduate courses in Offshore Engineering, since 2016. Has been awarded a Research Grant from CNPq, the Brazilian Research Council, since 1988. Served as Editor in Chief, Marine Systems & Ocean Technology (2004-2013) and as Associate Editor, Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, ASME (2007-10; 2013-16; 2016-19). Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department (2007-2011). Secretary of the Offshore and Petroleum Engineering Committee, ABCM - Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering. Co-chairman of the NAP-OceanoS, Research Nucleus Sustainable Ocean, USP. USP representative at the Petrobras Submarine Structures Research Network Committee, 2006-2013. R&D projects leader, sponsored by research agencies (CNPq, FAPESP, FINEP), the Brazilian Navy as well by offshore oil and gas companies. Formerly (1979-1989), research engineer at the Technological Research Institute of São Paulo State (IPT). Expertise in Ocean Engineering, presently focusing research interests on Dynamics, Hydrodynamics, Structural Mechanics and Fluid-Structure Interactions. Authored 53 journal papers and more than 150 conference papers, having 6 book chapters and 4 books edited.

Guilherme Rosa Franzini (EPUSP, São Paulo, Brazil)

Assistant Professor at the Department of Structural Engineering and Geotechnical (PEF), University of São Paulo since 2014. My activities concern Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical-Naval Engineering. Special interests include linear and non-linear dynamics of structures, flow-induced vibrations and parametric instability problems. In the last years, I have put efforts on three research projects: 1) Energy harvesting from flow-induced vibrations 2) Numerical studies on passive suppression of parametric instability and vortex-induced vibration phenomena using non-linear vibration absorbers 3) Mathematical modeling of Vortex-Induced Vibrations. I am interested in mathematical modeling, numerical simulations and theoretical-experimental analysis of the aforementioned problems. I was awarded with a grant from Fond de Recherche du Québec for developing a short-term as a visiting professor at École Polytechnique de Montréal, developing studies on passive suppression of galloping using a non-linear vibration absorber. I am author of 20 journal papers and more than 50 articles presented in conferences.

José Roberto Castilho Piqueira (EPUSP, São Paulo, Brazil)

José Roberto Castilho Piqueira was born in Sorocaba, SP, Brazil, in 1952. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Universidade de São Paulo in 1974, 1983, and 1987, respectively. From 1974 to 1994, he worked in several telecommunication projects for Brazilian electronic and service industries, designing and developing circuits, equipments, and systems. Since 1994, he has been dedicated to teaching and research at Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo, and participating in projects for Brazilian Oil Agency and Brazilian Navy. Currently, he is a Full Professor, working with time distribution networks and running a laboratory where analytical and numerical studies support electronic and optical experiments, considering the several possible topologies and quantum control models. Besides, as synchronous complex networks appear in many aspects of human life, he works with some biological models by using differential equations and proposing complexity measures for some spreading phenomena. Considering his areas of interest, according the ISI-Web of Science he published 115 papers, with 716 citations (h=14).

Livija Cveticanin (UNS, Novi Sad, Serbia)

Livija Cveticanin graduated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Novi Sad and finished her master studies at the Department of Mechanics at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. She obtained her PhD at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University in Novi Sad, Serbia. In 1990 Livija Cveticanin was elected to professor in Theory of Machines and Mecahnisms and in 1993 in Mechanics at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia. In 2016 she obtained the Doctor degree of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary and is elected into full-time Professor at the Óbuda University in Budapest. The research interests of Prof. Cveticanin are: Noise and Vibrations, Rotor Dynamics, Non-linear Oscillations and Applied Mechanics. She published 6 monographs in English by Springer Verlag, 4 book chapters in English, 14 papers in monographs and more than 190 journal papers (most of them single-author papers) and 110 proceeding papers. She was invited to give 12 Plenary Lectures and presentation at almost 40 conferences. Her total SCI citation score according to Google Scholar is more than 2250. She gave more than ten invited and plenary lectures at international conferences. She was the Lecturer at the International School of Mechanics CISM, Udine, Italy, in 2012. Sne is incorporated into International Projects: COST, Erasmus and CEEPUS financially supported by EU. Livija Cveticanin was the president of the Yugoslav Society of Mechanics, president of the Society of Mechanics of Vojvodina, President and Member of the Society for Vibration Control and Protection. Cveticanin was the Head of the Department of Mechanics and of the Department of Graphical Engineering and Design at the Universitz of Novi Sad. She was the Director of the Institute of Mechanics and Mechanical Design and the Vice-dean at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia. At the moment she is the Head of the Doctoral School of Safety and Security at the Obuda University in Budapest, Hungary.

Roberto Camassa (UNC, Chapel Hill, USA)

Laurea in Physics, University of Milan, 1982 (cum laude), M.S. Engineering Science, California Institute of Technology, 1985 and Ph.D. Engineering Science and Applied Mathematics, California Institute of Technology, 1990. His primary position is Kenan Professor of Mathematics, University of North Caroline-Chapel Hill. Among other research interest, it can be pointed out the mathematical modeling, with special emphasis on problems in the areas of fluid Mechanics, nonlinear evolution equations, as finite or infinite dimensional dynamical systems. Roberto Camassa has published more than 50 articles. He is also editor of two technical books.

Stefano Lenci (UnivPM, Ancona, Italy)

Stefano Lenci has received his Civil Engineering degree summa cum laude from the University of Ancona, Italy, in 1992, and his PhD degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Florence, in 1997. He has carried out a post-doctoral work at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6) from 1998 to 2000. He was an Associate Professor subsequently in Paris, Rome (La Sapienza) and Ancona, from 2000 to 2005, when he was appointed Full Professor at the Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM), in Ancona, Italy, position that he holds to day. He has been Head of the Department of Civil and Building Engineering, and Architecture from 2011 to 2015 and Head of the PhD Programme in Structural and Building Engineering from 2006 to 2011 at UNIVPM. He is presently serving as the President of the Italian Association for Theoretical and Appplied Mechanics (Aimeta). He shares with Prof. Carlos Mazzilli, from the University of São Paulo (USP), the supervision of the academic agreement between USP and UNIVPM. He serves as an Associate Editor for several journals, such as Mathematical Problems in Engineering, ASME J. Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, Meccanica, J. Applied Nonlinear Dynamics, Nonlinear Theory and Its Applications (NOLTA), Int. J. Dynamics and Control, Nonlinear Dynamics, ASME J. Vibration and Acoustics, Int. J. Mechanical Sciences. He counts more than 153 papers in scientific journals. He has acted as Chairman in a number of international congresses and courses, in particular in the highly prestigious CISM in Udine, Italy (Global Nonlinear Dynamics for Engineering Design and System Safety, with Giuseppe Rega). He has expertise in non-linear statics and dynamics (geometrically exact plane beam theory, non-uniform beams, stability theory, integrity of basins of attraction, asynchronous vibrations), macro- and nano-mechanics, energy harvesting, composite materials, seismic assessment of historic buildings.
