Beny Spira I am a bacterial geneticist interested in the processes that lead to the adaptation and evolution of bacteria. I am also interested in the scientific method, philosophy of science and the place of science and rational thinking in our society
Post-docs

Estela Ynés Valencia Morante   Biologist, master and PhD from the University of São Paulo. I am currently studying post-doctoral studies in the Bacterial Genetics group studying the analysis of antibiotic combinations in the inhibition of SOS response in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli
Doctoral students
Auri Auri M. da Gama Graduated in Chemistry (2009) by the Federal University of Amazonas – UFAM and Master in Biotechnology and Natural Resources of the Amazon by the University of the State of Amazonas – UEA (2012). Currently I am a PhD student in Biotechnology – REDE BIONORTE (2013), doing part of the PhD in the Bacterial Genetics Laboratory, here at the Biomedical Sciences Institute (USP).
Gabriela Torres Biologist (Unicamp) specialist in Clinical Microbiology (IPESSP), Master of Science (FSP / USP) and PhD candidate (EEL-ICB / USP) doing research on bioremediation of water bodies contaminated with organophosphorus pesticides with emphasis on bacterial biodegradation of glyphosate by Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and environmental isolates (Rio Paraíba do Sul / SP).
Henrique a.k.a. Rulho Henrique Iglesias-Neves I study mutations induced by nutritional stress using the phosphate regulon of Escherichia coli as a model. Using a classical method for the isolation of spontaneous PHO-constitutive mutants, the dynamics and the effect of different gene systems on adaptive mutagenesis is been studied. In addition to the research work, I write on a variety of scientific subjects in the best scientific blog currently on the market: Café na Bancada!
Luiz Gustavo de Almeida  Ph.D. student in Microbiology,  at USP in the Laboratory of Bacterial Genetics. I work on a project which aim is to obtain alternative sources of phosphorus for agricultural use, using phosphorus recycling by microorganisms. We employ genetic modifications in genes responsible for phosphate uptake and polyphosphate accumulation. We also perform evolution experiments in continuous culture (chemostat). I am also one of the founders of the blog "Café Na Bancada" and coordinates the  "Pint of Science – A Toast to Science"festival in São Paulo.

Undergraduates (IC)

Nicole Gonçalves Biology student. In my research project I study the relationship between magnesium availability and phosphorus metabolism in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Vinicius Sousa Biological Sciences student at the Institute of Biosciences of USP. Here in  ICB I do my scientific initiation in the Laboratory of Bacterial Genetics. I experiment with the evolution of P. aeruginosa in the chemostat.

Cláudia Ramos  Undergraduate student in Biomedicine. My scientific initiation project is about the molecular characterization of PHO-Constitutive mutants in Escherichia coli.

Gabriella Machado Undergraduate student in Biomedical Sciences at ICB-USP and scientific initiation student at the laboratory. My research consists of analyzing the effect of bacterial culture conditions on the dynamics of the emergence of PHO-constitutive mutants, a model used by the laboratory in the study of adaptive mutations.

Taissa Santos Student of the course of Biomedical Sciences at ICB and scientific Initiation at the laboratory. My project seeks to understand the role of RpoS on the emergence of PHO-constitutive adaptive mutations in E. coli.
